‘That’s the Frank Pompilii way’:

Beloved Staten Island grandfather honored during street co-naming ceremony in Sunnyside

Published: Sep. 29, 2024, 9:00 a.m.

Frank migrated from Italy at age 17 with minimal education and empty pockets, but as a loving hardworking young man. You would very often hear him say “God Bless America” as he was constantly appreciative of his many blessings and found every opportunity to pay it forward.

Frank was recognized as a distinctive honorary member of the Knights of Columbus, serving for over 30 years. He was also a devoted parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church for over 60 years. Sunday mass was a ritual, and it was also a ritual to dedicate himself for church causes.

Frank volunteered at Public School 35 for more than 20 years. He was always there for special events where his heart and his hands could be of value. He was seen as a father not only to his children, but to generations of children, the school’s principal and staff.

Frank was a proud member of the Staten Island community, and of Sunnyside Terrace where he lived for 51 years. Everyone knew and loved Frank. Devoting his life and the gifts that God has given him to serve the community was a core value.

Frank was the epitome of a committed family man and friend. He was married for 56 years, took care of his parents until they passed, and gave everything for his children. As a friend, Frank had an innate gift of connecting, caring, and persistently striving to live a life purely as our Lord wanted him to.

From his country of birth to the loved country he migrated to, from his place of work to non-profit organizations, from his neighbors to the Staten Island community, from his family to his friends, and finally from Sunnyside Terrace to his home now with God …Frank lived a life to be remembered and honored by all.
